Rose Donna Maria Dawkins-Baytop, M.D.

Dr. Baytop is a 1972 graduate of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Pharmacy who went on to complete a degree in medicine at the University of Florida. She is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and now resides in San Diego, California. She is currently the International Medical Director of Solar Turbines, Inc., a subsidiary of Caterpillar, Inc., and Regional Medical Director of Caterpillar.

Dr. Baytop has distinguished herself in the health care world and in doing so has become a shining star for FAMU and one of its celebrated daughters. She manages medical teams addressing complex world-wide employee medical emergencies in Solar Turbines’ facilities in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Australia/New Zealand, Pacific Asia, Mexico, and South America. She travels throughout the world to locate and select medical providers and centers of medical excellence to assure that Solar employees receive the best medical services within any country’s health care system.

Dr. Baytop is the former President and Chairman of the Board of the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association (WOEMA), the western component of the American College of Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) of which she is a Fellow. She has held a number of other prestigious positions and served them all with distinction. For her exemplary contributions to service in advancing the field of occupational and environmental medicine, Dr. Baytop earned and was awarded the Rutherford T. Johnstone Award in 2007.

Dr. Baytop has been a prolific supporter of the FAMU College of Pharmacy through the NDPAC. She has contributed increasing amounts to the Scholarship Funds over the past five years. Most recently she donated shares of Caterpillar stock totaling over twenty-five thousand ($25,000) dollars to the FAMU Foundation, earmarked for the College of Pharmacy. This brief bio is but a snapshot of the long standing and wonderful work that Dr. Baytop has provided to her community and profession.

Dr. Baytop is married to Allen Baytop, Director of Scholarships and Gifts at the University of San Diego. Mr. Baytop is a Masters Level graduate in Rehab Counseling from the University of Florida. They are the proud parents of two adult children, Dr. Chanza Baytop of Bethesda, Maryland and Brian Allen Baytop of Pasadena, California. They also have four grandchildren.
